Dense spikes of dark wine purple, pea-like flowers accented by contrasting golden yellow petals are produced over mounds of very blue-green foliage. Blooms late spring to early summer and can be used in place of a shrub in the landscape. Attractive round seed heads add beauty and interest to the fall and winter garden as well as food for birds.
